Connect the product to the market—and the work between

Connect supplier requirements, delivery arrangements and digital commerce when planning how a product will reach customers.

Connect the product to the market—and the work between

A product can be ready while the route to its customer is still unclear. A useful plan follows the whole journey: where it comes from, how it is prepared, how people discover it and what happens after an inquiry or order.

Map the handoffs

Sketch the stages from source to customer. For each stage, identify who is responsible, which information is needed and what signals that the work is complete. Include manufacturing or customisation where relevant, then packaging, distribution, sales and support.

Connect the catalogue to the operation

Product information should reflect the way the business can actually deliver. Agree who maintains specifications, availability, variations, lead times and inquiry responses. Decide where information comes from and how changes reach the people and channels that use it.

  • Sourcing and procurement: what is needed and how options will be evaluated.
  • Manufacturing: the agreed specification, production responsibilities and acceptance points.
  • Distribution: the destination, handoffs, packaging and delivery arrangements to establish.
  • E-commerce and trading: the offer, audience, order or inquiry path and support process.

Adapt the plan to the sector

A solar equipment project may depend on system compatibility and local installation requirements. Electric mobility products bring questions about charging, components and support; IT equipment needs to work with existing software and infrastructure. Start with the actual product and destination, and identify where specialist input is needed.
